Centurion appoints veteran economist to steer rental housing strategy

Centurion Asset Management Inc. has appointed Carl Gomez as chief economist and executive vice-president of research, effective January 5, to provide economic insight for strategy, capital allocation and operational planning across its platform.

Gomez brings more than twenty-five years of experience in Canadian economics and real estate investment.

He was most recently chief economist and head of market analytics at CoStar Group from November 2020 to January 2026, where he led the firm’s analytics platform in Canada, as per his public profile.

Gomez linked the move to current rental dynamics.

He said the sector still shows strong fundamentals, supported by structural housing shortages and steady demand for high-quality rental units, and that he looks forward to helping the team navigate the opportunities ahead.

Before CoStar, Gomez held senior research and strategy roles at QuadReal Property Group and Bentall Kennedy.

He was senior vice president, Research & Strategy at QuadReal from 2017 to 2020 in Toronto and previously served as senior vice president and chief economist at Bentall Kennedy from 2011 to 2017, where he led Canadian research and advised on how macroeconomic and capital market developments affected real estate investment markets.

Earlier in his career, Gomez held economist roles at RBC and TD Bank, where he worked on macroeconomic and housing forecasts for Canada and the US and became a commentator on Canadian housing market conditions and trends, according to his LinkedIn profile.

His insights have appeared in outlets such as The Globe and Mail, Bloomberg and CBC News
