Leadership change at AIMA Canada lands industry veteran in TD prime brokerage

AIMA Canada head departs for TD Securities prime brokerage role

According to an announcement sent to Wealth Professional, Claire Van Wyk-Allan will step down as head of Canada at the Alternative Investment Management Association later in March.

She will join TD Securities’ Prime Brokerage division, focusing on Canadian business development and capital introduction.

She said she will be “embarking on a new career adventure later in March,” and plans to continue to “champion AIMA’s work as a member” in her new role.

As per a Wealth Professional profile, Van Wyk-Allan became head of Canada for AIMA in 2018 and helped with initiatives around the implementation of NI 81-102 regulations on alternative mutual funds for members, prospects, regulators and investors at both the institutional and retail level.

The same report said she has helped advance discussions about alternative investments within the financial community.

It quoted her as saying, “We are seeing a lot of boutique managers, traditionally operating in the private space, offering the product. They are launching prospectus-based products, with these constraints to offer more options to more clients.”

Before joining AIMA as staff, she was the first female member of the AIMA Canada Executive Committee while at RBC Global Asset Management, according to AIMA’s biography.

At RBC GAM, she worked as Business Development Manager, Advisor Channel Sales, covering advisors in the Greater Toronto Area, and previously served as Manager, Sales Support, where she built and led a junior sales team across Canada.

AIMA also notes that Van Wyk-Allan began her career at Arrow Capital Management, a boutique hedge fund firm, spending almost four years as Regional Manager covering wealth advisors across Ontario.

She will remain with AIMA until her last working day on March 20.

According to the announcement, Van Wyk-Allan plans to support the transition by working with colleagues to hire and train a replacement.

AIMA has begun its search for the next head of Canada.
